Shuppy (“we”, “us”) operates shuppy.com and app.shuppy.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights over it. We aim to collect the minimum needed to run the service.
Who we are
Shuppy is operated by Peter O’Connell, trading as Shuppy, based in London, United Kingdom, who is the data controller for personal data collected through this website and the Shuppy app. Contact: hello (AT) shuppy.com
What we collect and why
On shuppy.com (this website): We collect limited technical data (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited) through hosting logs and any analytics we use, to keep the site secure and understand what content is useful. If you contact us — by email or through the contact form on our Contact page — we hold your name, email address and message so we can reply.
On app.shuppy.com (the wish-list app): If you create an account, we collect your email address (used to sign in and send service emails), your first name if you provide it, and the content of the lists and wishes you create. If you reserve or pledge towards a gift on someone’s list as a guest, we collect the name you enter, your email address (for your confirmation email and release link), any pledge amount, and any message you choose to leave.
How reservations and messages are shared
Shuppy is built around occasions, so some information you provide as a guest is shown to others by design:
- When you reserve or pledge, the gift is marked as taken (or the pledge total updated) on the list, visible to the list owner and other guests. Your name is not shown at this stage.
- On or after the list’s occasion date, the list owner can see who reserved or pledged what, including your name as you entered it, any pledge amount, and any message you left. This is explained in the reserve and pledge forms before you submit.
Please only include information in your name and message that you are happy for the list owner to see.
Legal bases
We process account, list, reservation and pledge data because it is necessary to provide the service you’ve asked for (performance of a contract). We process technical and security data under our legitimate interest in running a safe, functional website. Where we send anything beyond service emails, we will ask for your consent first.
Affiliate links
Our gift guides contain affiliate links, operated through affiliate networks such as Awin. If you click one, the retailer or network may set cookies on their own domains to attribute any purchase. We don’t receive your personal data from these purchases — only anonymised commission reporting. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.
Cookies
shuppy.com uses only the cookies necessary for the site to function, plus any analytics cookies described in our cookie notice. Third-party retailers and affiliate networks set their own cookies on their own sites after you click through.
Who we share data with
We use trusted service providers to run Shuppy: website and email hosting (including sending our own emails through our email provider), the platform our app is built on, and a transactional email service that sends reservation and pledge confirmations. These providers process data on our instructions. We don’t sell personal data, ever.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep limited records to meet legal obligations. Guest reservation and pledge details are kept for as long as the related list is active. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and you can object to or restrict certain processing. Email hello (at) shuppy.com and we’ll respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Questions or problems
For anything about your data — or anything else — email hello (at) shuppy.com, or use support (at) shuppy.com if something isn’t working as it should.
Changes
We’ll update this policy as the service evolves and change the date above when we do.
